Meet the Maker
My name is Tammy, and I'm the owner, maker, and designer behind Ashryla Boutique. When people ask me how I got started doing what I do, I have a bit of a hard time answering. I've been making and designing things for as long as I can remember, even as a kid. So although the medium has changed and it's evolved from a hobby to a business, I don't feel like it's something I really "started". It's really just a progression of something I've always done. I sold my first handmade creation when I was in grade four, so I guess I had a bit of entrepreneurial spirit in me, even then.
I grew up in Humboldt, then moved to Saskatoon for university. After finishing my degree in psychology and sociology, I spent over 5 years working with adults with disabilities. After getting married and having kids, I realized that returning to a traditional full-time job wasn't the best fit for our family. We moved to Martensville in 2008, and have been here (loving it) ever since!
When I'm not busy sewing and designing, I have a few hobbies I enjoy. I've been pretty involved with line dancing over the past 3-4 years, and it's one of the best things I've done for myself! I've also recently been teaching myself to play the guitar. I love being outdoors, and camping, hiking, and sitting around a fire are some of my favourite activities. I've also done a few beach vacations with my family over the past few years, and we're definitely cultivating a love for travel. Reading is another of my favourite pastimes. A few of my favourite books include: the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon; the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett; and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
"Dancing is like taking a mini vacation from the stress of the everyday--you have to be in the moment." - Ofelia de La Valette
I'd love to hear a little about you! Any interesting hobbies? Favourite books? Anything else you'd like to know about me? Ask away!
